Days after screenings of The Kerala Story, starring Adah Sharma, were postponed despite having almost sold-out performances, the film is now slated to open in the UK. The Kerala Story has experienced a significant setback in the UK when it was unable to get BBFC certification in time for its intended release on May 12.
The Kerala Story filmmaker Sudipto Sen announced on Twitter that the UK release of his Indian smash is now scheduled. “Congratulations #GreatBritain,” he tweeted. You succeeded. Terrorism failed. I'll watch for your response. Oh, the largest anti-terror revolt is currently being seen by British citizens.
Additionally, Adah Sharma retweeted Sen's message and added: “Congratulations to everyone! #TheKeralaStory See you in the UK.
The Kerala Story's UK distributor, 24 SEVEN FLIX4U, allegedly had to ask all theater owners to halt showings of the movie after learning that it is against the law to release a picture in the country without a classification.
A number of political parties and organizations have criticized The Kerala Story, alleging that it is not factually accurate and incites animosity against the Muslim population. Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, has imposed a ban on The Kerala Story across the region.
Adah Sharma had praised the audience for helping The Kerala Story become a hit movie in spite of all the controversy that surrounded it. She wrote, “Slander campaigns have been launched, our teaser has been shadow-banned, people have threatened me, mocked my integrity, and our movie has been banned in some states.” BUT because to you, the audience, #TheKeralaStory debuted as the all-time top female lead movie in its first week! Wowww! The audience is present. Now that you've won, we're going global. (sic)
In theaters, The Kerala Story has been doing very well. The movie is probably going to gross more than Rs 150 crore in India today.
