KL Rahul, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, hurt his thigh while playing for his team against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday. In a low-scoring match at Lucknow's Ekana Cricket Stadium, RCB narrowly defeated LSG. LSG, however, suffered a setback when their skipper hurt himself during the first session.
When Rahul ran to stop a boundary from Faf du Plessis' shot in the second over of the first innings, he hurt his right thigh. Rahul was removed off the pitch after being observed to be in significant discomfort. He came out to bat for his side in the chase at No. 11 but did not seem to be in good shape.
On Rahul, Krunal Pandya begins.
While Rahul was away, LSG appointed Krunal Pandya as their interim captain. A significant update on the injury of his team's usual leader has been given by the spin all-rounder. “What a terrible thing for Rahul to strain his hip flexor. The medical staff will evaluate it; I am not sure how terrible it is,” Pandya said after the game.
Notably, Ravi Bishnoi, a bowler for LSG, too spoke openly about Rahul and the defeat by RCB. It was a score you could chase. KL Rahul's injury was a blow for us, we lost one batter, and we also made some mistakes, Bishnoi said in a post-game news conference.
In the meanwhile, India may also suffer from this. Rahul will play for India in the World Test Championship championship match against Australia. The Men in Blue would be crossing their fingers on Rahul's injury with the final little over a month away.
With regards to the LSG vs. RCB game, Bangalore defeated Lucknow by 18 runs while defending their joint-highest score in IPL history—127. With their bats, Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli made significant contributions, while their bowlers did enough to stifle LSG's top order without Rahul. On Wednesday, Lucknow will host Chennai Super Kings and will be hoping for the best for Rahul.
